What to do while waiting for for the publication date of your first novel? Start writing your second one obviously. Having struggled with where to set it, I decided to use the wealth of information I had gleaned from my foray into genealogy and local history. Why re-invent the wheel when you have an excellent setting right on your doorstep? And how much easier is it to write about what you know? An old adage but an excellent one.

So I now have the beginnings of my new domestic noir novel on the go, taking place in an environment I am very familiar with. No having to consult maps or carry out any research in a bid to be geographically accurate. All I need to do now is focus on the important bits – the plot and the characters. If only there were a magic wand for that part!
